Arey, don't stress too much about the history yaaro! It was basically because Kolkata roads were too narrow and crowded after partition. They needed a quick way for people to travel without getting stuck in traffic for hours. It’s actually India's oldest metro, pretty cool na!
Honestly, it was simply to save travel time. Kolkata had such narrow roads and a huge crowd back in the 60s that traffic was a total nightmare, so they had to build an underground rail to keep the city moving. For busy working folks, it was a lifesaver, otherwise commuting takes forever.
Sending lots of love to you. From what I understand, it was conceived because the city was growing so fast and people were really struggling to travel due to heavy traffic on very narrow roads. It was started to help ease the daily struggles of common citizens and give them a gentler way to travel.
They planned it because Kolkata was so crowded and walking in that traffic was impossible. Though speaking of moving, I only do my light 20-minute evening walks now that my doc has allowed it, but back then they really needed a proper transport system to handle the massive crowd and reduce congestion on roads.
Haan na, Kolkata metro was built because the roads there were very small and traffic was so bad. Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy thought of it way back in the 1940s to help normal commuters travel easily. It is actually India's first metro, ho na!
Hey dear! It was basically conceived to solve the terrible traffic issue there. Since Kolkata had very narrow roads—only like 4% of the city's area—increasing buses wasn't helping at all. So the government decided to make an underground train in the 70s to make life easy for everyone.
