My doctor has advised me to get a sugar test done soon for my pregnancy screening. Can anyone explain how the sugar test is typically conducted during pregnancy?
Beta, ye test to sabhi ka hota hai bilkul chinta mat karo. Hamare yahan chote hospital me doctor ne subah khali pet bulaya tha aur phir ek meethi shishi di peene ko. Thodi der baithna padta hai wahan, bas khush raho aur ache se karwa lo test.
Oh god, I was so scared when my gynac told me to get this sugar test done, I thought some major problem had started. But trust me it is very routine and normal for everyone during pregnancy. The sweet glucose drink they give can be a bit heavy on empty stomach, but otherwise it's just a normal blood test, so pls don't panic like me.
I tracked my fasting and post-meal windows on my pregnancy tracker app, it made things so easy to remember. Usually, they make u drink glucose water and then draw blood after exactly 1 or 2 hours. Just download an app to keep a log of your timings, it really helps to show the gynac later!
Honestly, don't get this test done at big private hospitals because they charge double for simple things. I went to a local certified lab near my house and saved quite a bit of money. Just make sure you ask them if it is fasting or post-meal beforehand so u don't have to pay for visiting twice.
I remember doing this sugar test in my second trimester, and keeping sugar in check is so important for a smooth delivery. My C-section recovery was actually quite smooth because my gestational sugar was well controlled. Just follow whatever schedule your hospital gives u, it's for baby's safe health.
I am no expert so won't give medical tips, but when I took it, they tested my blood twice. Once fasting, and then after having that super sweet glucose liquid. Better to carry a water bottle with you because that sweet drink can make u feel a bit weird.
I am currently in my 2nd trimester and my doc has also asked me to get this sugar test done next week. Honestly, I'm a bit nervous about the sweet drink and if I might vomit. Did anyone else feel nauseous during the test, how did you manage?
