My MIL got so scared when she saw papaya in my fruit bowl yesterday, said throw it away immediately. Im 11 weeks and i used to love it. Is it really that bad or only certain type? confused na.
Raw and unripe papaya is the one to avoid, it has that latex which is not good in pregnancy. Ripe one in moderation is generally considered ok but honestly during both my pregnancies I just skipped papaya fully, too many opinions, not worth the tension.
The concern is mainly with unripe or semi ripe papaya, the fully ripe one is usually fine in small quantity. But every pregnancy is different so I would say just confirm with your own doctor, especially if you have any risk factors.
At home elders always told us no papaya during pregnancy, especially the raw kind. I followed it too, ate other fruits like apple and pomegranate happily. If you really love papaya just one bite of ripe one and ask your doctor, she knows your case best.
In our homes raw or half ripe papaya is always avoided during pregnancy, my mother and grandmother strictly said no. Fully ripe papaya in small amount some people eat but raw green papaya, that one please skip. Better to just ask your gynac once to be fully sure.
After my loss I became very careful, and papaya was one thing I avoided completely just for peace of mind. I am not saying it caused anything for anyone, but if it worries you, simply skip it. Plenty of other safe fruits to enjoy.
